    Description

This 1952 New York City street map is actually a silk scarf from Standard Oil of New Jersey (ESSO). I have learned that ESSO handed these out to the wives at their annual meetings in New York City as a gift and their guide for getting around while in New York City. These were a Langseth-Christensen creation and based off the map done by General Drafting.  The print is a process called Glo-Vure that was developed in the 50's for printing images onto fabrics.  I believe this is silk, but I am not 100% sure.  It is a silky type fabric.   This is two sided, with one side being a map of all of New York City with full color pictures of landmarks all around.  The other side is a city transport map and a closer view street map of Manhattan.  Measures 32" x 35" and is in amazing vintage condition.  Look like it was never worn and just stored for all these years.   Would be a great art piece framed on the wall!
