This coin is one troy ounce of .999 fine silver, whose weight and purity is guaranteed by the United States Government . The obverse was designed by Adolph A Weinman and was used on the half dollar coins from 1916 through 1947. The reverse is of a heraldic eagle designed by John Mercanti. Since 2001, regular-strike eagles have been produced at West Point (without mint marks).
